THE LLANVIEW CRAZE
Giving
Thanks
Soap
holidays can serve as the spiritual cement between viewers and
characters.
Or is
this soap actually getting good?

Hello again. I hope you had a marvelous Thanksgiving holiday. My
family celebrated at a restaurant for the first time, and I have to
say, it was surprisingly wonderful. Home cooking is always
nourishing for the soul, but cleaning up after 25 people... not so
much. This year was a lot easier on my mother and grandmother and
allowed everyone to relax and not have to worry about serving and
cleaning while spending limited time with out of town family
members. My schedule's insanity has not yet stopped, so I must again
get right down to the episodic reviews without waxing poetic on any
specific topic related to OLTL. But first, I would like to thank
Nikki for stepping in once again and doing a wonderful job filling
in for me last week.
I
suppose I can make one more remark regarding Thanksgiving. I'm not a
big holiday person, but Thanksgiving seems to become more meaningful
with age. The older I get - as more loved ones pass on, and other
tragedies and misfortunes test the strength of those left behind -
the easier it becomes to realize what is truly worth giving thanks
for. Things such as life, health, family, and friends gain
importance as shallow preoccupations (not including soap operas, of
course) fall by the wayside. Wise soap characters like Viki clearly
understand this same order of life importance. While watching the
Thanksgiving episode for OLTL this year, I was reminded how
life-long soap watchers begin to equate soap characters like Viki
(and by extension, soap actors such as Erika Slezak) with actual
family. As a result, it upsets me when soaps skip certain holidays -
despite the fact that I generally am not a big "holiday person." I
don't want to see any religion-specific things (such as DAYS' usual
insistence on having all of their characters be Catholic), but
holidays nonetheless serve as family bonding time as well as
springboards for estranged soap characters to set aside differences
and find common ground. Dorian showing up at Viki's is a good
example of the soap holiday spirit. It wasn't unrealistically
cheesy, but it demonstrated the effect of this particular holiday
(putting petty differences aside, if only for five minutes). If OLTL were to skip Thanksgiving - which it has done before - it would
feel unfair to Viki and certain other characters whose ability to
bond with their families seems somehow relevant to our own ability
to be thankful for our loved ones. Viki is like a second mother
figure to me, and when she
is allowed to have Thanksgiving with her
daughters and husband (in spite of planning a funeral and winning a
mayoral election on top of it all), it somehow feels like I am
bonding with my own family. I know life-long soap viewers feel
similarly. This familial quality is completely unique to the soap
genre and should be emphasized, celebrated, and exposed at every
possible turn. Though I would prefer even more usage of the vets, OLTL does a very good job of at least reminding us that Renee and
Nigel are still around, lifting a toast to Asa no less, and that
Dorian and Viki's history is so complex and layered that a simple
drop by on Thanksgiving can go from amiable to bitter faster than
you can say "alter personality." But I wouldn't want Viki and
Dorian any other way. I am thankful and grateful for TPTB including
a Thanksgiving episode this year. I think it's very important. And
also, I'm thankful OLTL is still on the air and doubly thankful for
your support with this column.
Monday, 11/16: "DADS GONE WILD"
- Really? 50% of Llanview's voters cast their vote for Dorian? The supposedly
lesbian candidate who is generally despised by everyone not related
to her? Why do I find this particularly hard to believe? Am I
supposed to infer that half of Llanview's population is so rabidly
pro-gay that Dorian got 50% of the votes? Because I can't see why
anyone would vote for her otherwise.
- The
Charlie/Natalie scenes were just amazing today. Bravo to Brian Kerwin and Melissa Archer. I thought this was Kerwin's finest hour
and that Archer turned in her most mature performances to date.
- Charlie to
Jared's body: "I killed you." This is Brian Kerwin's Emmy clip. He was mind-blowing, and the writing was fantastic (despite the sad
truth that the entire storyline leading up to Jared's death was
utter nonsense!).
- Why is
Mitch's name on Rex's birth certificate? Wasn't Roxy married to
Walter Balsom when she gave birth? Surely Walter's name would have
been on the birth certificate!? And certainly Rex could have dug up
this birth certificate eons ago. Isn't he supposed to be a private
detective? What a crock!
- How much
did I love watching Mitch psychologically torture John McBain? That
was delicious.
- Does anyone
know why Mitch knows so much about Caitlin? Is my memory fuzzy
here? I can't recall John and Mitch's previous interactions. Wasn't Mitch already gone by the time John hit town?
- Okay, the
writing for Natalie's monologue to Jared's body was bad. Sorry.
When Natalie professed that the very first night she and Jared got
together she "made a wish" that she would die before him was just
too much to swallow.
- Great
episode.
Tuesday,
11/17: "HOLD THE PHONE!"
- I hate to
say it, but every time Blair is on, I want to turn the TV off. The
writers need to wake up and realize they've ruined this character. They need to go back to the drawing board and devise a completely
radical storyline for her. Blair 2009 is just about as lame as it
gets.
- Thank
goodness Bo and Nora stopped before they had sex. That would have
been extremely hypocritical, especially of Bo.
- I rewound
Viki slapping Mitch like nine times.
- I can only
imagine how happy Brian Kerwin and Erika Slezak must be to have
Roscoe Born on the show.
- Interesting
writing for the Rex/Gigi scene in which Gigi told Rex his baby with
Stacy is still "perfect" despite having Mitch's genes. That was
unexpected and added an interesting, sweet aspect to the Rex/Gigi
relationship that I frankly have never believed before.
- I may have
to write an entire column on this next week because it's bothering
me so much, but I'm also resigned to it already... WHY did TPTB
destroy the character of Ross after Michael Lowry and Kassie
DePaivia exhibited red hot chemistry together? Why did they turn
Ross into a woman-beating psychopath. I hear Lowry is done taping
and Ross is being killed off. I mean, I could have done without him
coming back in the first place, but why bring him back successfully
then scrap it? Certainly not because Todd and Blair are a viable
option for the show. They're about as viable as a Chicago Cubs
World Series ring.
- On the
other hand, TPTB are spending a massive amount of energy desperately
trying to get us to like Kim. First she took over Stacy's
storyline, and now she's going smack into the middle of the
Bo/Nora/Clint story. As much as I'm skeptical, I have to say I
admire Carlivati's balls for going through with this. I think there
is something very specific that needs to happen, though, if Clint
and Kim are going to have an affair (and yes, I do think that will
happen sooner than later). That is, Kim and Natalie need to become
enemies and start a huge diva-like feud. Natalie desperately needs
a new rival. It looks like Kim is going to sabotage Nora and
Clint's marriage, worm her way into Clint's bed, and probably then
sink her claws into B.E. As much as I'm still not buying Kim/Amanda Setton as anything more than a garden variety hooker, this story
reads well on paper. It makes sense for Clint to go through a
mid-life crisis once he finds out about Bo and Nora. Natalie needs
something to do other than whine to John and scream at Mitch. Perhaps Kim will even turn out to be one of Mitch's followers - you
never know. In any case, I want to see Natalie and Kim go at it.

- Gigi is
being SO stupid by not telling Rex the truth about her spending the
night at Schuyler's. Now, once Rex finds out, he will never believe
that nothing happened.
- Did anyone
else notice that Nora was unable to say, "I love you," back to
Clint? She simply said, "You too." There's a difference.
- The
Blair/Todd scenes are nauseating. I want Blair to be publicly
humiliated, then locked in the secret room for about three months. I need a break from her - badly.
Wednesday,
11/18: "DARE I WEEP, DARE I MOURN"
- Why, why,
why did TPTB decide to have Blair flip-flop back into being in love
with Todd? What the hell is that about? Now, any man Blair ends up
with in the future will read as a consolation prize. I'm telling
you, this character needs REHAB. I would vote for a Jason
Morgan-like, brain-damaging accident in which Blair is given a
completely clean slate. Either that, or just disappearing.
- Just think,
if TPTB had taken my suggestion and turned Todd and Blair into BEST
FRIENDS about a year or so ago, Blair could still be sabotaging his
relationship with Tea without actually regressing herself. And Todd
and Blair could have worked together to keep John and Marty apart. So many great colors could have been added to the story which could
have made Blair and Todd's relationship evolve into something really
great. Instead, they have become disgusting even as friends or
co-parents, because Blair has still not moved on from like ten years
ago. It's so sad.
- WHY IS
THERE LIQUOR SITTING OUT IN VIKI'S FAMILY ROOM? Give me a break.
- Okay, now
I'm getting pissed off about Ross. Did he really need to be turned
evil for no reason? And are we really supposed to think of him as
"evil" next to Todd, who has committed murder, rape, rapemance,
child abuse, and everything else under the sun? Ross was really an
asset to the show and now he's just another day player. How
unfortunate. And by the way, TPTB, I really don't give a crap about
Eli outside of his relationship to Ross.
- More awful,
cheesy scripting regarding the mints in Jared's pocket. That was
worse than John and Marty's paper airplanes or Patrick's damn brown
pennies.
- Blair and
Todd kissing made me vomit in my own mouth. Just... horrifying.
- Oh my
LORD. I thought Brian Kerwin had his Emmy clip the other day, but
today when he smashed that liquor bottle to bits in front of Viki I
could hardly believe it. That man is a freaking SUPERSTAR!
- Can you
imagine losing your son AND learning you committed murder during an
alcoholic blackout...on the same day!?
- Why is
Marty psychoanalyzing John again? That is not what therapists do -
they do not give therapy to their loved ones. They want to be
normal with their loved ones. All Marty ever does is counsel John,
and he doesn't even want to be counseled! It's really
uncomfortable
to watch. The bottom line is that John does not love Marty, and she
loves him. It's kind of like Todd and Blair. Gee... maybe the
writers should have kept Todd and Marty, and John and Blair
together. Ya think?
- However,
just as I was stewing over this, John and Marty had their first
genuine moment of chemistry EVER together...
Marty: "There's a lot of wonderful things in this world." John:
"There's you...there's you." I actually believed this. Michael
Easton, whatever you did in this moment, PLEASE remember it because
it's the first time I've ever believed that John McBain is a
heterosexual man with emotional functionality.
- Isn't the
casting of Danielle just perfect? She looks like Tea, Todd, and she
even looks like Starr!
- I have to
ask: Is Natalie pregnant?
- When are
Rachel and Greg going to ride off into the sunset together? As in,
the sunset that takes them out of Llanview? Soon, I hope.
- Oh NO. I
cannot believe the writers had the audacity to have Natalie spend
the night in John's hell hole of an apartment the night of Jared's
death, rather than be with Charlie and her family. What on earth
were they smoking? It's like I've always said, as soon as Natalie
is in John's orbit, she turns into an idiot. Her going to John's
makes it look like she never even loved Jared. Nice slap, though.
Thursday,
11/19: "THE SEVEN YEAR MITCH"
- That might
be my favorite episode title ever.
- Why don't
Blair and Dorian know about Mitch yet? Why do only like three
people even know Mitch is alive?
- Mitch sure
got a nice tan while he was in that coma. He was in a coma,
right?
- Love the
Bo/Nora/Clint scenes today. Clint: "Bo, Nora - I love you both. I
love you very much." Awwww.
- Why is
Brody talking to Mitch like he knows of what he speaks? Son, you
better step back before you say something really stupid.
- Yep. See -
Mitch is already messing with Brody's mind. Before we know it, that
Iraqi boy will be back and Brody will be shipped off to St. Anne's.
- Why is that
dummy, Blair, telling Dorian the big secret about Tea? Does she
really think Dorian will keep that secret?
- I'm already
sick of Jolie, and they aren't even together yet. In fact, I curse
the writers for these Jolie scenes. The implication is that deep
down, psychologically speaking, Natalie is still in love with John. Jared's death freed this part of her mind and she immediately put
herself back into John's life and asserted herself into his physical
space. I only wish Marty would have been there when Natalie showed
up.
- Be on the
look out for John's pattern, because he's starting it yet AGAIN. As
soon as he gets with a woman, and things get even remotely settled
or drama-free, he will immediately start cheating on the woman
emotionally with another woman who is in danger/upset/in need of
attention.
- My advice
to Dorian: Call the mental hospital and have Blair committed. Seriously - wouldn't that be a GREAT story?
If Dorian committed
Blair just to make her get over Todd, and then Blair somehow could
start a new storyline by stumbling upon some secret information at
the mental hospital, perhaps about Addie or her real father?
Friday,
11/20: "WHO'S YOUR DADDY?"
- "There is
one thing I'm hungry for." - Mitch, while staring at the prison
guard's crotch. Was that intentional, Mr. Director?
- I just want
to rattle the writers for the preponderance of obnoxious,
hit-you-over-the-head Jolie references to remind viewers of how
"close" they are. Things like, "John, you know me better than
anyone." Or, "I never liked your sense of humor." We get it,
writers. These two "dated" or whatever you want to call it, for
years. And it was TORTURE. No need to remind us.
- Anyone
else find it uncomfortable to watch Greg just stand there for an
entire episode while the
Todd/Rachel/Danielle scenes transpired?
- Thank
goodness for Ilene Kristen and her incomparable energy. She is
stealing this entire episode, and Roxy doesn't even know Mitch is
alive yet!
- How creepy
is Mitch as he reads the Bible out loud to the creepy music? Love
it!
- Why are Kim
and Stacy making reference to Gigi's g-strings? That made my
stomach turn.
- Miles' name
came up today. Just where is Miles Laurence, anyway? Is that
going
to be explained?
- Who is
visiting Mitch? Could it be Miles????? That's my guess.
- I think
Florencia Lozano is the best screamer on daytime. I'm telling you,
she has to be in a horror movie, ASAP!
Monday,
11/23: "BLOOD IS THICKER THAN DAUGHTER"
- Why isn't
anyone concerned about Jessica's D.I.D. coming back? I'd say
Mitch's being alive would be cause for concern.
- Why did
Natalie make reference to Mitch "kidnapping" Jared? Did that really
happen? I never saw Mitch kidnap Jared, did you? Jared was running
around Napa a free man as far as I could see. It's such a shame
that the writing for Mitch's return and Jared's death was so
hack-like and amateur.
- Well, after
today, it's clear Michael Lowry is going to be out of a job soon. I
guess the writers don't want Kassie DePaivia to have a viable screen
partner.
- Nice eye
drops, certain blonde actress.
- Just when I
thought Schuyler was more intelligent than the average soap
character, he proved me wrong by buying Kim's lie.
- Why are
these Brody/Jessica scenes so much about grieving Jared and not at
all about Mitch being alive? Hello! Mitch being alive is the most
significant thing that's happened to Jessica since Nash's death. Yet there was no mention of Mitch in these scenes.
- Brody does
know how to handle Jessica's hysterics, though. Good for him.
- Why did
Todd just let Ross lie there for the entire episode? It just proved
that Todd only likes to beat up children.
- News flash
to Kim and Stacy: You just told Schuyler that Stacy drugged and
RAPED him. You didn't use that word, but that is exactly what
you're claiming as your new story. That's so freaking dumb. Schuyler could do such damage with this information. But instead,
he's going along with it, which will surely end up costing him Gigi
at some point. Dumb.
- Melissa
Archer stole the show today when Natalie told off Roxy. That was
powerful.
- LOVED LOVED
LOVED the Brody/Jessica shower montage with Mitch narrating the
creepy letter to Jessica. The direction was phenomenal.
- Mitch, in
his letter to Jessica: "Is Victoria having Christmas this year?"
That is just so hilarious and creepy at the same time. LOVE
Mitch!!!
- Thank you,
TPTB, for letting Ilene Kristen rock it today as Roxy collapsed and
burst into tears. Nice to see Roxy's vulnerability. Kristen
deserves a lot more air time, and a contract.
Tuesday,
11/24: "CONGRATULATIONS, IT'S A GIRL"
-
No one seems
to remember that Natalie has lost a husband before. She's been
through this before.
- I guess Moe
and Noelle are back for good. Oye vey.
- I'm not at
all enjoying Dorian harassing people about whom they voted for.
It's just so beneath her. Where is the STORYLINE?
- Very smart
to have these Rex/Bo scenes right after the Mitch revelation.
However, what the HELL is Bo doing at work in Llanview the day after
Matthew's surgery? No wonder Matthew has issues with his parents!
- Kyle and
Fish = zzzzzzzz.
- Does Amelia
live at La Boulaie now? She just appears out of nowhere in yet
another pantsuit.
- I got so
excited when Danielle called the cops after realizing Ross choked
her mother... until I realized she was calling the cops ON her
mother. What a little bitch.
- I'm so sure
Dorian would abandon her family on Thanksgiving and fly to London,
not even knowing where David is, or what he is up to.
- The way the
writers are going with Ross, I wouldn't be surprised if he rapes
Danielle or gets all incestuous on her. Ick.
- R.I.P.
Schuyler - the latest victim of TPTB.
- Let me get
this straight... the mayoral election was on November 2nd. Two days
have passed since then - yet it is now Thanksgiving. Only on soaps,
I tell ya.
Wednesday,
11/25: "IS IT SO SMALL A THING?"
- Starr and
Cole are about as far back on the back burner as you can get without
being Renee and Nigel.
- Why do I
have a feeling that Mitch is going to brainwash little Bree?
- So, Jared
died the night of the mayoral election (November 2nd), and is being
buried next week - which is DECEMBER. Hmmm.
- Love the
Roxy/Kyle scenes. Kyle has more chemistry with the ladies than he
does with Fish.
- I was
feeling some major Erika Slezak/Viki love today. Like I said
earlier, she really is like my television mom.
- Can someone
please explain what Renee was doing at the clinic where Mitch
was??? They showed Renee and Nigel today and I remembered about
that scene. Something is just not right. Could Renee be in Mitch's
cult? Stranger things have happened.
- Great
episode.
**MAIL
REPORT**
"Perhaps I'm
being hasty but this Rex/Mitch paternity reveal makes absolutely no
sense. As you've already noted, if Mitch has been walking around all
this time then who the hell was in the hospital bed? But here's the
other thing:
1. All it took
was a BIRTH CERTIFICATE (a document of legal record) to find out the
truth? Rex is not only legally entitled to that information it is
also accessible to him. He could've gotten a copy of his birth
certificate eons ago. He is not only a sucky P.I. but he's also
brain dead.
2. However,
why would ANYONE, even Roxy, list Mitch Lawrence as the father of
record? Even if he is the father of record I just don't see her
putting his name down. I also don't see Mitch hoarding this birth
certificate for any good reason. If it was a trump card, then
Corrine wouldn't have been the one to pull it out.
3. As for
Corrine, what took her so long?
4. How did
Roxy know that Mitch wasn't dead? Why would she keep that from
everyone in Llanview? Viki, Jessica, Todd, etc. have every right to
strangle her for this." - nova
I don't think
this is a hasty assessment at all. Though I am tickled pink to have
Roscoe Born and Mitch back in town, the writing which brought about
his return has been sloppy at best, and nonsensical most of the
time. None of it makes sense. So I guess my advice would be to try
to enjoy Born's performances and try not to think about the
storyline - because it will only lead to a headache.
"Do you know
how poignant of an insight it was to mention Destiny’s parents? The
problem here is that diversity is a quality issue not quantity. The
wedding in the gay square & the Dorian fiasco would have paled in
comparison to a casting, delivery, and comprehensive story for
Fish. Exploring his evolution honestly in writing and performance
would have been the louder statement. Political correctness does
not come down to volume. I think the black family was added in that
vein. However, two brothers struggling to be Destiny’s father
figure would have spoken volumes about their character as black men
in America. Imagine if Rachel had been Destiny’s only support
system? She would recognize that she was the only female role model
for Destiny as she was torn between Shaun & Greg. Raising herself
justifies Destiny’s endless bank account to buy shoes and plane
tickets for a crush. Shaun would have justifiable resentment and
Greg guilt about Destiny with Rachel’s entrance only magnifying
their struggle – focused on parenting strong-willed Destiny." -
Citizen K
Yes, yes,
yes! Despite my underwhelming reaction to all of the actors in the
Evans/Rachel storyline, I think I would be a bit more interested in
their storyline if Shaun was Destiny's guardian, and Greg (the older
brother) was now trying to re-enter their lives. That (on top of
the Rachel situation) might have made the Evans family interesting.
Instead, I'm left wondering why these two seemingly standard parents
are completely absent as Destiny misses school for weeks at a time
and flies around the world in pursuit of her crush on Matthew. When
Felicia and What's His Name do show up, it's usually to spout off
some anecdotal, inconsequential lines. The story would be stronger
without them, and the conflict would be more impactful. It's also
not helpful that the actress playing Felicia has more talent in her
pinkie finger than the rest of the actors all combined. Her strong
actor presence despite having an undeveloped character only
highlights what is lacking in the zombie-like delivery found in most
of the Rachel/Greg/Shaun scenes.
"I just had
the most wicked thought. What if Natalie and Charlie, in their
grief, have an affair. Since they both lost Jared it would make
sense to have them lean on each other a lot." - Nic
Oh, Nic, I
like the way you think! But I cannot imagine Carlivati and Company
having the balls to do that. It would piss a lot of people off.
"Wait, didn't
they establish that Jared's step-father was abusive? And the cause
of his brother Jimmy's death? Why did Charlie then seem to imply
that the step-father was a great guy who knew Jared and who Charlie
was jealous of? Is this a different step-father? Also, while
Charlie is blaming himself for killing a man while drunk, why isn't Viki mentioning how one of her alters killed her father?" -
Krista
Krista is just
adding on to the growing list of things about Jared's death which
made absolutely no sense. Although technically Viki's alter did not
kill her father, since he unfortunately was brought back to life
years later.
"Just watched
our show today (11/16). I will tell you that it is rare for me to
weep at our show, but the outpouring of emotion from Charlie and
Natalie got to me when Jared died.....They didn't over do it, or
overact it, but it made me feel very sad. Very sad too because why
did the ones in control mess up the family dynamic? I feel that the
family dynamic has been missing for a while. I don't understand I
guess. I miss Nash, and now I miss Jared too. I don't like seeing
both of them go. I think this was the wrong direction to take.
Natalie and Jared worked. There was real chemistry there. I agree in
what you wrote today made sense how perhaps Jared standing on his
own may not have worked out just yet, but Natalie and Jared in my
opinion sure did." - Glynis
I agree,
Glynis! I don't have a huge problem with Jared being killed off. But I have two major problems with the way it was done. One, the
writing regarding Jared being blackmailed and the non-existent
evidence against Charlie was beyond ridiculous. It was painfully
stupid and sloppy. The other problem I have is that despite how
well Natalie and Jared worked together as a couple, she has already
been flung completely back into John's orbit. She slept at his
apartment the night her husband died. The writers couldn't be any
more obvious if they tried. Unfortunately for us all, Nat and John
still have no chemistry. But neither do John and Marty (have you
noticed the pattern here with John and women???), so TPTB are
probably going to do Jolie again anyway. Which is incredibly
unfortunate since Melissa Archer loses all of her appeal when
Natalie is paired with John. As a Melissa Archer fan, I don't want
to go through that again.
"Blair makes
my teeth ache!! She is being written so unbelievably awful right
now, that I find myself FF through most of her scenes. She's always
walked the edge, played the bitch, I've often wanted to slap her,
but I have never been bored by her. She has never been written this
stupidly before. She is a needy, sad, pitiful shadow of herself.
Desperately throwing herself at Todd, crying, clingy, ugh! What? now
she's convinced herself she's in love with Todd again? How can KDP
play her with a straight face? Todd is one of the smartest
characters on OLTL - why is he acting so stupidly? Todd has always
been able to see through Blair's lies and BS, even when he was
besotted with her! The writers are clearly at a loss as to what to
write for these two. Put Blair with Ross, put her with Eli, anybody
but Todd." - Sandi in Ohio
I agree 100% I'm getting to the point where I either want a LONG break from the
Blair character, or she needs a storyline that does not involve men
at all. She needs to find her father or join Mitch's cult or
something extreme. The writers need to reinvent her because she has
become a lost cause. I'd almost be okay with her being killed off,
which is such a shame because she was one of my favorite characters
for years and years. Sad.
"Marcie in
labor was ridiculous. Why all the screaming? She’s married to a
doctor. Did she not take any breathing classes, birthing classes,
etc.? A baby kicking--even hard-- and labor do not feel the
same. It is also very frowned upon to fly that far along unless it
is an absolute emergency, so what the heck was she doing in Llanview?
Was the point to scare all fertile female viewers into using birth
control?" - Linda
I don't know,
but I do thank you for the enlightenment. I thought Marcie giving
birth was funny, but - like so many of the storylines on the show
right now - the circumstances surrounding the scenes made no sense
whatsoever. Especially when you consider that Marcie was only like
six months pregnant!
"During 2009,
One Life has often been maddening. In February, I got so irritated
that I got up and turned off the TV and didn't watch for about ten
days. My complaints have been pretty much covered by your columns
throughout the year. There is no reason to belabor them. Instead,
I just have to say that the best thing the show did was bring Tea
Delgado back just about one year ago. I think I could watch Florencia Lozano read the phone book aloud because she would find a
way to make it mesmerizing. The woman rocks. Even when the writers
betrayed Tea and had her freak out when she was locked in the
basement with Blair, Florencia didn't fail (Tea would not have given
up and whimpered while Blair was determined to find a way out,
particular now that we know she had a daughter to fight to get back
to. And there were better ways to get Tea to mention to Blair that
she had a secret than to betray her character and make her weak in a
moment of crisis). For me, Tea is now the reason to watch. No
disrespect to Dorian or Vicki or Roxy or Mitch. Just imagine Tea
with Roxy and Mitch. Florencia gives Tea that great throaty laugh.
I love the way she screams when she fights for her life or her
daughter. It is clear that Florencia is there in the moment
absolutely giving it everything she's got. And anybody she has a
scene with always seems better. She doesn't steal scenes, she
somehow manages to make everyone in the scene shine brighter. So, I
can get past alot as long as I can watch my Tea light up the
screen." - Marty
No doubt about
it - Florencia Lozano is a bright, shining star. One of the best.
Dorian will always be my sentimental favorite, but this is the
lowest point in my relationship with her. Carlivati has turned her
into a clown and taken away her venom, which I will never
understand. Blair has been ruined. Todd is kind of boring these
days. Lindsay's in jail. I think the writers have greatly damaged
Tea's character though with how she has handled Ross and Todd and
her secret. But Lozano absolutely has ruled the show since her
return.
